2009 Highlights:

Thank you to all our store owners who participated in the 2009 "Green" First Friday and for all our guest speakers:

 

Culinary Apple featured recyclable & compostable items such as recycled aluminum foil, parchment paper, wax paper and compost pails and bowls. First 15 Customers received a "One Less Bag" Bag.

Willow hosted Charles Sablan, Chelan's Park Director

Blue Moon hosted Marge Sackett and the Valley Bloomers who educated the public on how to save heirloom seeds.

Bear Foods featured eco-friendly natural cleaning products and hosted Bea Murphy and Frances Tucker who covered 2 of the 3 R's-Reduce and Reuse.  They also discussed safe alternatives to toxic cleansers and hazardous waste alternatives.

  

Fashion For Twelve  hosted Mark Tesch (right) who was recruiting volunteers to help with recycling craft materials for children's activities at Earth Day. He also discussed the third R - Recycle.


Shirt Shop  hosted Stan Morse (below left) with tips on composting.

 

      
Kelly's Ace Hardware hosted Jeff Shannon, owner of Ecopro (above right) a building/remodeling contractor specializing in green practices. 

 

  

 

Riverwalk Books  featured 20% off all environmental titles and hosted Phil and Karen Mattocks who shared information on the wonders of biodiesel fuel (they collect used fryer oil for this purpose).

Memories By The Lake hosted Nancy Balomey, Joan Brownfield & Ruth & Scott Parsons from Solid Rock Farm at Howard Flats who welcome membership in their cooperative, while raising food for themselves on a few acres. They also provide for the Food Bank.

 

 

 

 

 

Spirals hosted Theresa Poulson, a Park Ranger for the US Army Corps of Engineers who does environmental outreach and answered questions about water safety and mitigation sites along our shorelines.

  

Columbia Furniture hosted Denny and Guy Evans (below left with Frants from Columbia Furniture) who talked about their organic gardening and their winery..

  

        

 

Raycom Radio Shack showied the documentary DVD "Broken Limbs" produced by Guy Evans and Jamie Howell.


 

Black Dog Frame Shop  hosted Russ Jones who talked about the Original "Green Power" Sport-Sailing (above right) and large "root wads", a threat to boat water safety.

 

 

Aston's Gifts hosted Ken & Mary Ross (below left) who talked about Earth Day Litter Cleanup & Metal Collection Event.


            

 

 

 

 

Main Street Gallery hosted Steve Milner educated the public on how the Chelan/Douglas Land Trust partners with government and private interests protect land. 

 

Steve is also well versed in using "green" fuels as opposed to bio fuels. (left)

 

Also, Concie Luna showed how she uses found and recycled materials to create art pieces (above right). 

 

 

 

 

   

Whaley's hosted Robbie Luke (below left) of Chelan Dog who talked about welcoming new puppies.

         

 

Heartfelt Fitness hosted Maria Young, Master Gardener, (above right) who explained how to use containers and bags of soil with drip irrigation for growing gardens outside on the ground.

Swim World hosted Anne and Randy Brooks (Randy - beow right) of Brooks Solar, who brought their Electric ATV and Electric Toyota Echo plus samples of renewable energy.

 

        

 

 

By the HDCA Raffle Table: Chelan 4H Girls sold baked goods and candy.

HDCA Volunteers Bill & Linda Crego shopping for goodies! (below left).  Swim World let us borrow the fire pit to stay warm and have fun.
