Thank you to all who participated in Sip & Stroll 2016! It was a successful day. Participants enjoyed themselves and shops were busy. We sold out of tickets before the event even started and we were able to raise about $4500 for Holiday Lighting!
Speaking of holiday lighting, I just placed an order for 100 strings of solar holiday lights! This year, HDCA will be adding holiday lights to each of the trees lining Woodin, Emerson and Johnson. If we get approval from the city, we will also light the lampposts on the old bridge. This is a test year for solar lights, and we’re crossing our fingers they’ll be a good option for future years!
Don’t forget that HDCA will be having our annual membership dinner combined with our first quarterly merchant social next Tuesday. Our newest members, Stormy Mountain Brewing, will be hosting us at their place starting at 5:30.
The Woodin Avenue Landing Advisory Board went to City Council this week to ask for consideration during the 2017 budget planning session. Kirk McGovern spoke on behalf of HDCA and reminded the Council that the project has been developed over the last three years through a series of community meetings and public input. The goal is to beautify a neglected corner of downtown Chelan while improving walkability and boater/lake access. Kirk informed the Council that the HDCA Board voted to contribute $20,000 plus architect fees toward the WAL efforts if the City agrees to contribute $100,000. If you’d like to see this happen, please let your City Council members know it’s an important project. City budget planning will happen later this month.
