This is the inaugural post in our "Get Downtown!" series

A quick snapshot of fun things going on in downtown Chelan.

This Saturday marks the annual Wayne Kelly Memorial “Top Dog Parade” in downtown Chelan and there are some really great opportunities to be a part of this decades-long tradition!

Starting at 8:30 AM on Saturday, an army of leprechauns (that is, walkers and runners) will descend upon Riverwalk Park for the Shamrock Shuffle – a 5k (3.1 mile) fun run benefitting the Lake Chelan Lions Club. Registration is still open – info available here.

After working up an appetite, runners, walkers, and just waking uppers can get to Marcela’s for a pancake breakfast. The breakfast goes from 9-11:30 AM with all proceeds benefitting the Chelan High School’s Class of 2022 Senior Night – tickets are available at Culinary Apple, $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

The grand finale, the highly anticipated Wayne Kelly Memorial “Top Dog Parade” kicks off at 12 PM on Woodin Avenue. Here you will witness canines of all shapes and sizes dressed in their best, but only one Top Dog will prevail!

Come on by to enjoy the adorable spectacle. Better yet, bring your furry pal along and join the parade, meeting behind Wells Fargo Bank at 11:30.

On top of all that, the downtown businesses will be open for shopping, dining, and general perusing. Pop into the Culinary Apple at any time during the day to enter a raffle for three fantastic prizes – winner will be drawn at 5 PM. Additionally, Local Myth Pizza is temporarily expanding their outdoor seating to accommodate a beer garden featuring all of their great taps plus “Black and Tans” (Irish Lager layered with Guinness) to keep with the theme. Be sure to pay them a visit after the parade!

Looking Forward:

The first day of Spring is this Sunday, March 20th, which means many of our seasonal downtown favorites will be reopening soon. This includes The Riverwalk Inn and Café (can you smell the cinnamon rolls?) and The Bistro, both opening their doors on April 1st. We love watching our historic downtown come to life with the budding flowers and warming days. Check back on our blog soon for more exciting spring happenings, and may the luck o’ the Irish be with you!
